Oil pastels, my medium of choice, are an extremely underrated medium that combines vibrant color & luscious brush strokes of oil paint with the detailed control similar to a pencil.

Prior work thrived on sparse figures and portraits, which usually lacked a setting or background. The challenge of the current body of work has been two-fold: to create an expressive application of oil pastel, at times with the combination of pencil; and, to successfully infuse the figure into an environment. The figure remains the focal point, but hopefully, a much richer story can be discovered.

After achieving a Bachelor of the Fine Arts but dumbfounded by graduation, I applied for & received a Resident Artist position at my alma mater, Millersville University. For one year, aside from the continuation of artistic pursuits & full use of the facilities, the residency offered experience as a teacher's assistant.

I continued my education by pursuing a Masters' Degree at the University of Delaware. Within the MFA program I instructed two undergraduate classes: Drawing Foundations I (fundamental instruction in drawing to beginning art majors); and Elementary Painting/Drawing I (instruction in the elementary aspects of drawing and painting to non-art majors). Although teaching was enjoyable, sadly, the art department lacked a drawing/figurative community, growth-based instruction, and constructive criticism. Eventually these reasons instigated leaving both the program and University.

Returning to Pennsylvania, I began my career in the graphic design business as a Photoshop Artist at Clipper Magazine. Excellent technical aptitude & multi-task ability, and strong interpersonal skills lead to an Assistant Prep Coordinator promotion. Responsibilities included demonstrating photograph manipulation techniques, work distribution, and new employee training all of this was accomplished under tight deadlines. Ultimately, realizing that artistically speaking this was a dead-end job, I quit then moved to Philadelphia.

After several months of unemployment & uninspired temporary work while job-hunting, I began work as a Graphic Artist & Web Designer at Sealworks, Inc.. Quickly, I learned several new professional skills which include HTML, XHTML, CSS, and basic Javascript. Despite the majority of clients being corporate entities, opportunities for creativity were readily available.

Artistic endeavors are a perpetual goal. Currently, I attend drawing sessions, participate in the local art community, continually create a new body of work, and publicly display in local & regional exhibitions. I have also created a number of websites for friends, colleagues and local businesses as an independent contractor.

Unless otherwise noted, all work displayed on this website is for sale. Prices are available upon request.
